The BIRD branch

Welcome to the BIRD branch of my tree. This is a summary to whet your appetite of the stories you can find on other pages.

There are a number of Birds who have stories to tell.  On my website you can read about :

William BIRD who built a number of properties in Lambeth around 1820 - one of which is in the photo on the left.

During the Victorian Age you can read about George BIRD of Chessington Court Farm, whose wife Nina unveiled the Hook War Memorial and ironically how he was killed when he was run over by a motor car.

Another story covers a relative who was involved in a change of name mystery which has baffled the family for generations but which I have now resolved.

I found articles in a book, Hook Remembered, about Chessington Court Farm and about the street celebrations they had after the War at Chessington Court in 1945. I also eventually discovered the Farm was located off what is now the A423 opposite The White Hart Public House and found, in The Times, a sale notice for the farm in 1917.

You can find out about the manor house at Chestham Park (the photo shows the front gates as they are today), where it can be found on a street map, an extract from a book about Chestham Park and a directory for Henfield in 1878 featuring John COVENEY and Henry ROSS.

Possibly the star exhibit, is a handwritten transcript of family births and deaths in the family bible by Henry ROSS in 1874.

There are photos of Chessington Church, where Henry ROSS and Eliza BIRD married in 1878, Chestham Park today and in the past.

Stories of my wild goose chase to research The Birds of Everdon in Northamptonshire including my visit to Everdon Church, Farthingstone Church, Newnham Church and researching St Sepulchre’s Church, Northampton (photo on the left).

And finally, a plaque in Ceylon celebrating the achievements of a BIRD who I am probably not related to but is the reason why this genealogy game is so exciting !
