Horn Snuff Box 1793
On a silver ring around the top of the horn, it has “James Hill Baker N.Shields 1793” engraved on it.

Nothing is known about James other than he was a baker and the father of William, born 1804. His great great great granddaughter has a Horn Snuff Box which, on a silver ring around the top of the horn, has “James Hill Baker N.Shields 1793” engraved on it. This could be a 21st birthday present, or perhaps more likely, an award on completing an apprenticeship.
I have been unable to identify the crest on the top.
